PROJECT OVERVIEW

This Product is the DISH Anywhere(DANY) application for the Amazon Fire TV platform. DANY on Fire TV supports existing content sources, including Live TV and DVR from set-top box. Dish worked to stream by partnering with Roku, Fire TV, and Chromecast. We designed our applications into their platforms to give popular Dish entertainment to our subscribers.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

My focus was on overall product UI design including product structure, wireframe, interactive prototype, and visual design efforts. Also, managed and oversaw visual designers and contractors to ensure alignment across a 10ft platform. Collaborated with contractors, product managers, and the engineering team.

FIRE TV COMPETITIVE RESEARCH

Prior to beginning the design process, we conducted extensive research on popular media streaming platforms such as Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, and Netflix. This research helped us to develop a plan for our content and evaluate our visual design language style and list of product features. Additionally, it enabled us to make more informed decisions about our product strategy and better understand the competitive landscape in which our product would operate.

DESIGN PROCESS

One of our contractors designed an initial wireframe (Phase 1). After building and testing it, we created the second phase wireframe based on user testing feedback. The most significant issue we found was with the top main navigation, which contained all the pages and posed a challenge for navigation with a remote. As a solution, we decided to keep only four central tabs and create secondary navigation for search, settings, and help with icons. Additionally, we added a "see all" function on the home page, which allows for easy access to programs without having to drill down. On the media page, we noticed that the layout was too distracting, so we improved the visual language and switched to a slider for finding programs from right to left.

USER TESTING WITH THE FIRST BUILD

Those are screenshots from when we tested our first build with phase 1 wireframes on TV.  We found issues and discovered how we could improve layout, visual design, and structure. All the time we tested at 10ft our products with

a remote. It is a different user experience compared to using fingers or a mouse.
