This Product is the DISH Anywhere(DANY) application for the Amazon Fire TV platform. DANY on Fire TV supports existing content sources, including Live TV and DVR from set-top box. Dish worked to stream by partnering with Roku, Fire TV, and Chromecast. We designed our applications into their platforms to give popular Dish entertainment to our subscribers.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY
My focus was on overall product UI design including product structure, wireframe, interactive prototype, and visual design efforts. Also, managed and oversaw visual designers and contractors to ensure alignment across a 10ft platform. Collaborated with contractors, product managers, and the engineering team.
FIRE TV COMPETITIVE RESEARCH
Before we started a design, we researched Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, and Netflix. It helped to build a plan for our content and evaluation of visual design language style and lists of product features. Also, it allowed more informed decisions about our product strategy and to help understand the general landscape in which our product would compete.
We had an initial wireframe (Phase 1) designed by one of our contractors. After we built and tested it, we created the second phase wireframe based on our user testing feedback. The most significant issue that we found was the top main navigation. It contained all the pages that challenge navigation with a remote. So, we decided to keep only four central taps, and created secondary navigation for search, setting, help with icons. Also, we decided to add a “see all” function on the home page. It supports easy to find programs instead of having to drill down. On the media page, the layout looked distracted, so we improved visual language and switched to the slider for finding programs from right to left.

USER TESTING WITH THE FIRST BUILD
Those are screenshots from when we tested our first build with phase 1 wireframes on TV. We found issues and discovered how we could improve layout, visual design, and structure. All the time we tested at 10ft our products with
a remote. It is a different user experience compared to using fingers or a mouse.
